YVONNE AFUA AKYEA BOAKYE, DR. LAWRENCE ADAI BOAKYE AND AMA DUA BOAKYE AND CONFISCATED ASSETS COMMITTEE

The petitioners herein are all the children of a businessman known as E.O Boakye (popularly called Boakye Mattress). It would be recalled that in the wake of the 1979 June coup d'etat all properties of Boakye Mattress were confiscated to the state. The records indicate that in 1979 i.e. during the era of the AFR - Mr. Boakye was tried, convicted and sentenced to a term of imprisonment and his assets and those of his companies were confiscated to the state. However before the AFRC left office the punishment was reviewed and it was decided that Mr. Boakye's business concerns should be returned to him. This did not include properties personally owned by him. A petition in respect of Mr. Boakye's business concerns came before me some time in August 1996 and in a ruling given that same month I made an order that his business concerns should be returned to him.
