On 25th June 1999, the Commission received this complaint from Gyima Daffour 19 years of age. He claimed the refund of his suvivor's benefit from his mother the respondent. The Complainant alleged that his mother abandoned him when he was just 3 months old. His step mother thus brought him up. His father died 8 years ago. When his father's estate was being distributed, the respondent surfaced and insisted that his (the complainant) share should be given to her to hold in trust for him. As a result, the respondent was given a bulk sum to keep and hold in trust for the complainant. In addition to this, the respondent draws a monthly survivor's benefit on behalf of the complainant. The problem is that the respondent has failed to look after the complaniant. The complainant thus wants accounts and refund of monies collected so far. He also wants to be substituted to enable him draw the monthly benefit himself since he is of age. The respondent commented that she never abandoned her chil...
