By a petition dated 5/6/98 the complainant complained against the conduct of an annual general elections of the Hotel & Catering International Management Association. According to the complainant there had been no election for many years because there were not enough corporate members. When it was time for them to hold an election, a meeting was held but a consensus could not be reached as to the conduct of the election. Some members stormed out of the meeting. However the remaining members went on to hold the elections and declared a winner without the other members, contrary to the Constitution of the Association. Furthermore some members who were allowed to stand for the elections were not fully paid up members and some unknown people were allowed to vote. The complainant wanted the Commission to investigate the matter and to advise the Association on the matter.
