SAVE THE CHILD MINISTRIES AND QUEENMOTHER OF KWASHIEMAN & ANOR

By a petition dated December 28, 1999 and forwarded to the Commission by the IMELI National Council on Women and Development, the complainant complained about encroachment on land acquired from the Accra Metropolitan Authority and extortion and harassment by the Queenmother of Kwashieman and another. COMPLAINANT'S CASE The complainant, an NGO that trains orphans and needy children in the manufacture of gas ovens and gas cookers was given permission by the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) to work on a piece of land which was said be a Government reservation at Kwashieman in Accra. The complainant alleges that one Lartey who lives near the said piece of land claimed that he owned the land and insisted that they 'pay an amount of ten thousand cedis monthly. The AMA advised the complainant against paying any money to Lartey since he does not own the land.
