The Complainant brought this complaint on behalf of herself and her two siblings on 16th September, 1999. She stated that she and her siblings were aged between 16 and 20. She stated further that their father had failed to maintain them for a number of years. She said the burden was now too much for her mother to cope with. The Commission mediated the matter on 6 December, 1999. The Respondent said it was financial hardship that prevented him from remitting as much money as he should. He however denied that he was guilty of non-maintenance. A Memorandum of Agreement was drawn up in which the Respondent agreed as follows: (1) To bear the cost of the Complainant's semester fees of ¢300,000.00. (2) To pay ¢20,000 to the Complainant as maintenance. (3)To pay the sum of $474,000 being the balance of fees for his son in SSS1 at Mfantsipim School. (4) To maintain his 2 sons.
