EL SHADDAI TEMPLE AND GA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

DATE OF PETITION 17/5/2001 CLAIM Restraint of Ga Traditional Council from harassment. SUMMARY OF PETITION In May 1999 El-Shaddai Temple was attacked during the ban on drumming and noise making period by members of the Ga Traditional Council even though a formal complaint was lodged to the Police no action was taken. In May 2001 an armed group numbering 50 led by one Nuumo Ogbaami Mensah also known as Sakumo Wulomo. The group disrupted the church service, seized musical instruments and forcibly took them away. Even though the church lodged a formal complaint with the Accra Central Police, a petition was lodged with the Commission for assistance and also as a mark of protest to the Government. OBSERVATION Investigations were commenced however the Commission was later informed that a Criminal Summons had been served on the accused person Nuumo Ogbami Mensah to attend court after being charged with offences of unlawful entry and stealing.
