INTRODUCTION The Complainant in a complaint dated 15th September 1999 asked this Commission to get the Respondent to maintain his child born out of wedlock. COMPLAINANT CASE The Complainant claimed that the Respondent promised to marry her. As a result of their liaison, a child was born. She stated that the Respondent had promised to reimburse her for all ante-natal costs. RESPONDENT'S CASE The Respondent stated that he had performed the "knocking ceremony" but had no money to perform the marriage and pay the ante-natal bills. FURTHER INVESTIGATION The Commission instituted a mediation panel to go into the matter. Both parties agreed as follows: I. The Respondent was to pay an amount of $60,000.00 every month as maintenance for the child. II. The Respondent agreed also to foot all the medical expenses of the child. However, the proviso was that the bills should come from a government hospital. III. The Complainant also agreed to give the Respondent access to the child. IV. B...
