ASSOCIATION OF FLIGHT ATTENDANTS –GHANA AND THE MANAGING DIRECTOR, GHANA AIRWAYS LTD
INTRODUCTION In July 1999, the Association of Flight Attendants-Ghana ("the Association“), submitted a complaint to the Office of the President against Ghana Airways Limited, (the "Respondent"), on behalf of Mrs. Beatrice Obeng, (formerly Miss Beatrice Naa Quarcoo), a flight attendant with the Respondent. By the terms of a Contract of Appointment for Cabin Attendants Between Ghana Airways Ltd. And Mrs. Obeng ("the Contract"), the Respondent prohibits female flight attendants from taking maternity leave unless they have completed three years of service. The Association alleges that the Respondent grounded Mrs. Obeng from flying duties and transferred her to the 'In-flight Services Section' when it learnt that she had become pregnant within the proscribed period of her first three years of service.
