KWAKU OPOKU MENSAH AND INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (IGP)

INTRODUCTION James Bruce Smith was a remand prisoner at James Fort for the past 5 months. The Complainant brought a petition to the Commission for his release as a result of non-tial. However, the Respondent stated that the delay in trying the remanded prisoner was due to the transfer of the investigator of the case to a new schedule. COMPLAINANT'S VERSION According to the Complainant, James Bruce-Smith was remanded in the prisons custody for 5 months without being tried by the court of law. The Complainant alleged that Mr. Bruce-Smith was charged with rape. He appealed to the Commission to ensure that justice was done to Smith for a speedy trial. RESPONDENT'S VERSION The Commission contacted the James Fort Prison and was directed to contact Nungua Police for further information.
