THE REPUBLIC vs. NICHOLAS OSEI & 13 OTHERS
The first thirteen accused persons herein were charged on two counts with conspiracy to commit offence namely, stealing and stealing contrary to sections 23(1) and 124(1) respectively of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The fourteenth accused person, one Kassim Adam was charged on a count of abetment of stealing contrary to sections 20(1) of Act 29 already referred to. All the accused persons are workers of Oweri Mines at Konongo. It is alleged that between October and November 2013, A1-A13 pilfered gold concentrates of their employer, particularly at night, and A14, who is the Security Manager of the mines company facilitated the criminal conduct of the other accused persons. It was further alleged the theft of the gold concentrates was detected on 16/12/13 by the Project Manager of the Mines who then lodged an official report the following day with the Konongo Divisional Police Station.
