VICTORIA BRIGHT vs. AHMED ARTHUR AND NPP
The plaintiff, Victoria Bright, a member and parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Okaikoi South constituency, challenged the eligibility and election of the 1st defendant, Ahmed Arthur, as the NPP parliamentary candidate. The plaintiff alleged that Ahmed Arthur made false declarations in his nomination forms for the 2012 parliamentary primaries, leading to his disqualification by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC). Despite this, the National Council later overturned the disqualification, allowing Ahmed Arthur to contest and win the 2012 parliamentary elections. The plaintiff contended that the 2016 primaries were conducted in violation of party rules, including issues with the voters' register and election timing, and sought declarations and injunctions to prevent Ahmed Arthur from contesting the 2016 elections on the NPP ticket.
