QUARSHIE BRUNO vs. THE REPUBLIC
1 Introduction This is a criminal appeal from the Circuit Court, Accra against the judgment of the learned trial judge dated 26 February 2018 that convicted and sentenced the appellant herein on a charge of robbery contrary to s.149, Criminal & Other offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) to a term of ten (10) years imprisonment in hard labour (IHL). The brief facts are that appellant managed to seize a mobile phone being held by and belonging to the complainant (PW1) whilst the complainant was on her way back home on the street of Dansoman around 10:30 pm. A taxi driver (PW2) who was close to the crime scene responded to PW1’s SOS calls for help, pursued appellant and succeeded to arrest him, brought appellant to the crime scene, and together with PW1 sent appellant to the police who after interrogation charged appellant with the offence of robbery at the Circuit Court, Accra.
