A. INTRODUCTION 1. Reputation, according to the Black’s Law Dictionary (9ed, p1419) is: “The esteem in which a person is held by others”. Reputation is worth more than gold. The Bible; Proverbs 22:1 provides “A good name is to be more deserved than wealth; favour is better than silver and gold”. Reputation is the goodwill that goes ahead of a person. A good reputation paves the way, but a bad reputation is a stumbling block in all endeavours. No wonder, most people jealously guard their reputations to avoid contamination. 2. Plaintiff’s action is aimed at restoring his good name and reputation, which he alleges, has been unjustly damaged by the false allegation of thievery on his part by the defendant. The court will determine whether Defendant made the allegation and whether same succeeded in defaming the Plaintiff.
