STEPHEN DONKOR vs. THE REPUBLIC

This is an application on notice for bail pending trial. At the last court date on 9th October, 2020 the State Prosecutor appeared and prayed to be given time to respond. The case was adjourned to today but nothing has so far been filed in response to this application. This court has also perused the affidavit in support of the motion. It is obvious from all the attachments that the Accused person has been in police custody since the year 2016. On 20th September, 2020 an application for bail was made before the District court, Adjabeng. In refusing the application the court also stated that an advice was given by the AG’s office in a letter dated 19th January, 2017 that Accused be charged with causing harm with offensive weapon instead of attempted murder. The matter was adjourned to 15th may, 2018 after series of adjournments pending the filing of a bill of indictment and summary of evidence for committal.
