JUDGMENT THE LAW ON CONTEMPT OF COURT The jurisdiction of the High Court to commit for contempt of Court is derived from the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, 1992. Article 126 clause 2 of the said Constitution states that the Superior Courts shall be superior courts of record and shall have the power to commit for contempt to themselves and all such powers as were vested in a court of record immediately before the coming into force of the Constitution. See also Section 36 of the Courts Act, 1993 Act 459 as amended. The procedural Rules for bringing contempt application to the Court are also contained in the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2004 CI 47 at Order 50.
