MATTER OF PAYMENT OF RETIREMENT BENEFITS TO ACADEMIC SENIOR MEMBERS OF BOLGATANGA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

RULING On 4th October, 2023, the Parties appeared before the National Labour Commission for a hearing. The Complainants were represented by the President of TUTAG and the Chairman of TUSAAG. The Respondent was represented by the Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University. This has reference to a "Notice of a Strike Action" dated 13th July, 2023 served on the National Labour Commission on 20th July, 2023 by the Technical University Teachers' Association of Ghana - Bolgatanga Technical University branch (TUTAG - BTU). A copy of the notice was also served on the Vice-Chancellor on the payment of 'Retirement Benefits to Academic Senior Members of Bolgatanga University'. The National Labour Commission, in exercise of its powers under section 139 of the Labour Act, (2003), Act 651, at the initial hearing of the case on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2023 had directed the intended strike to be called off which was done.
