LEGAL PROFESSION ACT, 19601(1)
AN ACT to
consolidate and amend the law relating to the legal profession.
Organisation of
the Profession
(1)
The General Legal Council, as established and
in existence before the commencement of this Act is responsible for the legal
profession and, in particular,
(a)
for the organisation of legal education, and
(b)
for upholding standards of professional conduct.
(2) The constitution of the Council is set out in the First Schedule.
(3)
The Council may hold land and any other
property and do any other thing as appears to the Council to be required for
the purposes of performing its functions.
(4)
The Council shall appoint a director of legal
education, and any other officers it may require, and in the case of officers
required for the purposes of legal education the appointments shall be made on
the recommendations of the director of legal
education.
